When I turned twenty-five years old in May 2014, I was so uncertain about everything that I refused to remain in the city in which I lived for my birthday.

I flew to Vancouver, Canada and met a good friend who lived there. She collected me at the airport, indeed came running towards me in the terminal, calling my name, wrapping her long, bony arms around my body, her long acrylic nails digging lightly into the flesh of my arms.
